Greetings long lost friends of Bocca Lupo Records / Mal Madrigal / Stephen Bartolomei With His Comrades
It has been nearly two years since I last sat down to write the mailing list. Today launches the pre-order for my latest record. The records will ship in December, in time for Christmas. Downloads are ready now. In the tradition of the previous limited edition Bocca Lupo releases, I am proud to present this LP:
Stephen Bartolomei With His Comrades All the Ghosts.
All the Ghosts is a collection of 12 songs featuring long time Mal Madrigal comrades Ben Brodin, Ryan Fox, Dan McCarthy, John Kotchian, and Mike Saklar..
We recorded and mixed the album at Chicago’s Electrical Audio with the mighty Steve Albini at the helm. Fans of Mal Madrigal (the prior name of this project) will be pleased to hear the clearest most dynamic representation of the band yet. This album juxtaposes a minor key moodiness (listen: Desert Madrigal) with more melodic songwriting (listen: Song of the Wind). There is a lot of ground covered in this song cycle, with the band pushing further into the territories only hinted at in the previous albums.
All The Ghosts was recorded in a quick three days so there is both a bit of fire and fragility behind each performance. With the completion of each “tight rope take” the six of us claimed a small victory, one song at a time. As such, All the Ghosts is a performance album with all the nuance, spontaneity, and spirit of a live show. Recording All the Ghosts was something special, and I hope you’ll hear it there in the grooves of this vinyl record.
As you know, making high quality vinyl is a painstaking and expensive process. With a pre-order purchase, you will reserve the hand numbered LP with silk-screened jacket (Shipping ASAP in December), a download copy, plus bonus video downloads and access to demo’s, alternate versions, and live recordings in the weeks leading up to the album’s official release.
Thank you for supporting this release. Below are links for the the Pre-Order, A SoundCloud Samper, Videos, A Recent Daytrotter session and Tin Roof Live video session. Please do us the favor of sharing these songs if you like what you hear.
